Duties and Responsibilities of department head
▪ Leading the department representing in all its dealings with third parties
▪ Motivating staff to enhance productivity and teach effectively
▪ Recruiting, selecting and evaluating academic staffs as well as providing the informal leadership
that enhance staff moral and professional development and improving the performance of weak
teachers.
▪ Preparing budgets, maintaining department records assigning duties to staff members, supervising
staff personnel and maintaining finances, facilities and equipment of the department or school
▪ Motivating staff to increase scholastic research activities and services
▪ Providing long term direction and vision for the department, soliciting ideas for improvement of the
department and creating a supportive communication climate
▪ Teaching and keep updated in one's academic discipline
▪ Establish atmosphere of professionalism where men and women interact with trust and respect.
▪ Prepare ground for staff and students research.
▪ Recommend on the renewal of the contract of the academic staff
▪ Execute penalties of academic staffs in light disciplinary breaches
